Rhye

los angeles downtempo soul

Rhye arrived in 2013 with no faces attached to it and a voice most listeners assumed belonged to a woman. it did not. the project has been led by Mike Milosh since, built around a live band rather than a studio pairing.

Woman came out that year and made the polaris prize longlist. four more records followed, Blood, Spirit, Home, and the JOY ep in june 2026, most of them on Loma Vista and lately on his own Secular Sabbath.

this is not floor music and we are not going to pretend otherwise. it is slow, close, after-hours writing. what earns it a place here is who keeps reaching for it.

Blood Remixed in 2018 is effectively a house record made out of his songs, with Mano Le Tough, Moon Boots, Poolside, Tensnake, Jacques Greene, Channel Tres and Roosevelt all taking a pass. Âme remixed "Black Rain" in 2022 and Jayda G got to it first in 2021. Frank Wiedemann did "Holy."

and it runs the other way too. in 2024 he sang on "3 Days Later" with Adam Ten, one of the eleven on our front page, out on Higher Ground. last october he turned up on Crayon's "Strange People" for Erased Tapes.

the JOY tour reaches mexico city in october and runs the states through to brooklyn in december.
