josh butler grew up split between warrington and rural new zealand, started producing at fourteen and was taking paid dj work before he moved back to the uk to do it properly. Got A Feeling came out in 2013 on more than alot records and refused to behave like a debut, with bontan's remix and a pleasurekraft edit on top carrying it furthest.

in late 2016 he started ORIGINS RCRDS and opened it with heroes of house, a series built to put the founders of the genre next to newer producers. the first volume paired him with marshall jefferson and santé, and later editions pulled in todd terry, kerri chandler, darius syrossian and waff.

The Heroes of House Project has been one of the most rewarding projects to work on in my career so far. It's all about bridging the gap between different generations who love house music. It's been a huge honour for me to work in the studio with some of the genre's originators.

Call You Back with bontan landed on his own label on 27 february 2017, on the third heroes of house volume. by 2026 the imprint had reached ten years and marked it with a run of remix editions, volumes six through eight, one of them pulling in kerri chandler and dawn tallman.

the 2026 catalogue stayed on the underground side. the On The Dancefloor ep went to piv on 24 july 2026, Movement turned up on poker flat recordings on 3 july 2026, and dansu discs took House Rules and Last Day on 12 june 2026. hot creations had him earlier with doesn't work.

one date is confirmed ahead of him. he plays defected's thursday residency at chinois in ibiza on 13 august 2026, back to back with george smeddles, on a bill with darius syrossian, makez, melé and camila ramirez. defected's own announcement lists him among the fifty plus artists booked across the season, which runs every thursday from 7 may to 8 october 2026. nothing else is published after ibiza.
