david penn was cutting spanish dance records long before the name travelled. through the nineties he worked under other aliases, and the one that reached furthest was kadoc, whose The Night Train landed in the mid nineties. he has gone back into that catalogue on purpose, putting a new The Night Train out with crusy on altra moda on 13 june 2025 and an edit of deux's Sun Rising Up on deepalma on 4 july 2025.

in january 2003 he started Urbana Recordings in madrid as a division of zen records. it is still where his own material lands, most lately Satisfy My Soul on 26 june 2026.

I don't really use it like a business, the label is for me to put music on that I think is interesting.

the defected relationship is old rather than new. his first record for the label was Esperanza with dj chus in 2005, and on 21 february 2020 defected put out a house masters compilation of his work. Nobody and Stand Up with ramona renea both sit there too.

the record that outruns the rest is Ain't Got No with kpd, out on club sweat on 6 march 2020. before it came Hipcats with atfc on armada subjekt on 26 february 2018. his remixing reaches wider than his own singles, including a rebuild of Green Velvet and technasia's Suga for toolroom on 27 november 2020, and in 2025 he turned up on defected next to raphaella and Vintage Culture for Just Stay The Night, out 28 november 2025.

the back half of 2026 is booked. he plays wooferland festival at spaarnwoude on 29 august 2026 and love to be.. festival on the stray in harrogate on 5 september 2026, then defected malta between 1 and 5 october 2026. on 21 october 2026 amsterdam dance event runs a night named for him, madam invites: david penn and friends, on the twentieth floor of the a'dam toren.
